St. Louis County’s Prop S would raise taxes for senior services

5 cents per $100 assessed value — about $230 a year on a $200,000 home — for a new Senior Citizen Service Fund.

St. Louis County voters will decide in November on Proposition S, a property-tax increase of 5 cents per $100 of assessed value — about $230 a year on a $200,000 home — to fund services that help older adults stay in their homes, St. Louis Public Radio reports. A seven-member appointed board would manage the fund.

Collection would start in 2027, with the first distributions in 2028; supporters expect about $16 million a year. The city of St. Louis and 56 Missouri counties already have senior funds.
