Shelter asks public to hold off on stray-cat drop-offs; fosters needed

Sangamon County Animal Control is moving healthy cats into foster homes while it deals with panleukopenia.

With the highly contagious panleukopenia virus confirmed at its shelter, Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center is asking people not to bring in stray cats unless it is absolutely necessary, Capitol City Now reports. The State Journal-Register also covered the outbreak Monday.

The shelter is working to move healthy cats into foster homes and asks anyone willing to foster to call the shelter; details are on the county’s Animal Control and Adoption page.
