The Illinois Secretary of State’s office is calling on the Belleville school district to stop using MVP Transportation, whose van was involved in a Metro East crash that killed a student, First Alert 4 reports. The office found the driver was not operating with the proper permit and that the company is not registered with the state as a school bus employer.

The investigation found the district had no contract with MVP but paid it hundreds of thousands of dollars for transportation over several years. The district has since stopped using the company and had not responded to KMOV.
