Pritzker lets farmers use cheaper dyed diesel on the road through year’s end

The order declares all 102 counties disaster areas for 30 days as diesel averages about $6.66 a gallon statewide.

Gov. JB Pritzker signed an executive order directing the Department of Revenue and Illinois State Police to allow on-road use of dyed, tax-exempt agricultural diesel, 25News Now reports. The state won’t issue penalties for that use on state roads and highways for agricultural purposes through the end of the year, and the order declares all 102 counties disaster areas for 30 days.

AAA puts diesel at about $6.66 a gallon statewide, up from $3.73 a year ago. Pritzker blamed federal tariffs and the war in Iran; state Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, called it a short-term fix during harvest. IDOT may consider extending the relief through 2027 if shortages and high prices persist.
