Post-Dispatch tells newsroom to triple its content output
Editors at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch are telling journalists in small-group meetings to publish about three times as many pieces as they do now, St. Louis Magazine reports. Staffers say the idea is more content tied to the same reporting — a video, an uploaded document or a timeline under its own headline — rather than three times as many stories, and some editors have suggested using the AI built into parent company Lee Enterprises’ publishing system.
Lee declined to comment. Staffers voiced unease and skepticism, noting the paper’s paywall and shrinking search and social traffic. Lee’s majority shareholder, billionaire David Hoffmann, has not met with the newsroom, staffers told the magazine.
