North County apartment complex faces condemnation over mold and a $700K gas bill
Northern Village Apartments in north St. Louis County has until Oct. 19 to pay an outstanding gas bill of more than $700,000 to Spire or the gas will be shut off, St. Louis Public Radio reports. County inspectors have visited more than 260 times in 2½ years, logging mold, sewer failures and residents without heat or water; the property also owes more than $780,000 in county property taxes.
County Executive Sam Page asked the council to move $450,000 into emergency funding to help roughly 150 residents relocate if the building is condemned, but several council members said Tuesday they were wary of using county funds, suggesting nonprofits or legal action against the owners instead. The owner did not immediately respond to STLPR.
