Normal in no hurry on data center rules, keeps moratorium into 2027
While Bloomington prepares to release draft data center regulations this week, the Town of Normal is keeping its moratorium in place until at least next spring, WGLT reports. Mayor Chris Koos said the town would rather not pass ordinances that state rules could undo; lawmakers took no action on the POWER Act data center bill in the spring, and it could return in next month’s veto session.
Koos said Normal isn’t aware of any data center operators interested in the town right now. Bloomington’s Planning Commission will discuss its draft ordinance at a special meeting Oct. 16.
