The $154 million, 5.2-mile Red Line extension links the region’s two commercial airports; it opens to riders in the coming months.

MetroLink has finished its 5.2-mile Red Line extension from near Scott Air Force Base to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport, St. Louis Public Radio reports. Gov. JB Pritzker and transit leaders celebrated Monday. The $154 million project will open to riders in the coming months after more testing.

The state put in $127 million through Rebuild Illinois for this and two related projects near MidAmerica; the St. Clair County Transit District added $65 million. MetroLink also finished installing turnstiles and gates at its other 38 platforms.
