Girl, 7, fatally stabbed on East Chatham sidewalk
A 7-year-old girl died after being stabbed several times while walking on a sidewalk near South Cottage Grove Avenue and East 86th Street in East Chatham late Saturday morning, NBC Chicago reports. The Cook County medical examiner identified her as Edi Mari Hernandez Chacon.
Police say a woman who did not know the girl attacked her; bystanders chased down and detained the suspect, who was taken into custody after hospital treatment. Ald. Michelle Harris thanked the bystanders who intervened. No motive was known.
