East Peoria adds 10 more Flock cameras despite public pushback
The East Peoria council voted unanimously Tuesday to buy 10 more Flock Safety license-plate cameras on top of the 18 it already has, at a cost of $156,500 over five years, 25News Now reports. About a half-dozen speakers, not all from East Peoria, opposed renewing the contract, citing surveillance and privacy concerns for commuters across the region.
Mayor John Kahl said the city has used Flock responsibly for 4½ years without a single local case of misuse. Commissioners pointed to the cameras’ help finding kidnapping victims and recovering stolen property.
